I met Neil Gaiman at a… I suppose you’d call it a “presentation”... he gave at a college in Conway, Arkansas. The person who drove me had to get his autograph, and got me to take a picture of the two of them. She gave him a big bear-hug as I snapped the picture. I don’t know how amused he was about that, but he kept fairly composed.
I met Scott McCloud at Henderson University in Arkansas. My Comics Club professor, Randy Duncan, invited him to talk to us about his new book and his general conception of the comic book artform. I got to talk to him about some of my own ideas which he seemed to like. I also met his family, and they seemed quite nice; his daughter was a real firecracker. Also, he really doesn’t look like his cartoon avatar.
I went to see him this past winter break in Dallas. It would have been fun but something (or “someone,” I should say) unexpected happened.
I almost got to meet Mr. Nimoy… but then there was some family problem and they sent William Shatner in his place. Still not a bad thing, but Nimoy rocks so much harder than Shatner.
